A New Hospital - A New Style
The new owners of Physicians' Hospital made a critical, yet strategic decision to incorporate a new style of leadership and delivery of patient care in order to stand apart from other hospital-based providers. Physicians' Hospital affiliated with
Planetree, a national non-profit organization instrumental in beginning the movement towards "patient-centered" care, becoming the exclusive Planetree affiliate in the Portland Metro area.
This distinction incorporates the concepts of personalizing, de-mystifying and humanizing the delivery of patient care.
Our Services
Physicians' Hospital offers a wide variety of medical, surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic services. In addition, an Urgent Care Center will open in
late 2005, along with a secured, residential care behavioral health unit. The hospital will also create a non-profit foundation to accept donations to support patient and community education, encouraging individuals to be more pro-active in their own healthcare plans.
Our History
On January 14, 2004, Portland's Gateway area lost a valuable asset. The forty-three year old Woodland Park Hospital closed its doors without notice. More than 350 people lost their jobs, many of them long-time employees. In addition, the community lost approximately 200 inpatient beds and a number of ancillary services.
In May of 2004, four physicians (Drs. Timothy Treible, Bryce Milam, Carlos Ceballos and Jordi Kellogg) all members of the Woodland Park Hospital medical staff, bought the assets from bankrupty and began the process to reopen the hospital under a new name. On December 23, 2004, Physicians' Hospital opened with a renewed purpose, and a decidedly different vision for how it would deliver care.
To date, Physicians' Hospital has delivered 150 jobs back to the Gateway community. Over the next five years, the hospital expects to bring an additional 250 jobs to the community it serves.
